The “Péniche à Rhum” on the Midi Canal at Béziers

An unusual and imaginative conversion of a now redundant canal cargo barge is this floating bar at Béziers.

The atmospere inside is cosy and inviting.

This “Péniche” is 38m5 long and 5m wide, normally barges are up to thirty meters long and five wide due to the restriction of the lock sizes on the Midi Canal. On other canals the barges can be anything up to sixty meters long, these wonderful boats make excellent “ mobile-homes ”.
